Schaefer Counselling Services

I offer online booking for in-person and virtual sessions for adult clients across Alberta and other unregulated provinces and territories. Appointments are scheduled in Mountain Daylight Time (MDT). You can manage your appointments online, including rescheduling or canceling. 24 hours’ notice is required for cancellations or changes; late cancellations and no-shows will incur a fee, and a valid credit card is required on file.

Winter & Weather Advisory

During the winter months, icy or unsafe road conditions can make travel difficult. If driving for an in-person session feels unsafe, you are welcome to move your session online. Likewise, if you are feeling unwell, please switch your session to online to help protect everyone’s health. Your safety and well-being are my priority. Please note that sessions cancelled with less than 24 hours’ notice, or no-shows, will result in a late cancellation fee.

Please check your emails and/or text messages before your appointment. I aim to provide at least 12 hours’ notice if a session needs to be moved online, though occasionally messages may be sent on the day of the appointment due to changing conditions.

My office is on the second floor (unit #8) of Present Mind Wellness, accessible by stairs or a chair lift. Please contact me in advance if you require the chair lift. If you are in crisis, please call the Edmonton Distress Line (24/7) - Phone: 780.482.4357 (HELP), the Suicide Crisis Hotline (24/7) - Phone or Text: 988, go to your nearest emergency room, or call 911.

Feel free to reach out if you have questions or need assistance with booking. I look forward to connecting with you and supporting you on your journey. Take good care of yourself.

Warmly,

Annika

Counselling and psychotherapy offer numerous benefits for individuals seeking emotional support, personal growth, and overall mental well-being. These therapeutic approaches provide a confidential, non-judgmental, and validating space where clients can safely explore their thoughts, feelings, and behaviours with the guidance of a trained therapist.

**Key benefits include:**

**Improved Mental Health:** Therapy supports managing stress, anxiety, depression, and other mental health challenges, leading to better emotional regulation and healthier coping strategies.

**Enhanced Self-Awareness:** Through reflection and open dialogue, clients gain deeper insight into their emotions, behaviours, and thought patterns, promoting self-understanding and personal growth.

**Better Relationships:** Therapy fosters improved communication, conflict resolution skills, and emotional intimacy, strengthening relationships with partners, family, friends, and colleagues.

**Healing from Trauma:** Evidence-based techniques such as Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) effectively help process and heal from traumatic experiences.

**Empowerment and Growth:** Therapy supports building self-esteem, setting and achieving personal goals, and developing resilience, empowering clients to face life’s challenges with greater confidence and strength.

**Support for Life Transitions:** Whether navigating career changes, loss, or relationship challenges, therapy provides guidance and support for adapting to new circumstances.

**Enhanced Physical Well-Being:** Because mental and emotional health closely impact physical health, many clients experience relief from chronic pain symptoms, improved sleep, and better overall wellness.

Whether you live in St. Albert or the surrounding communities, my counselling practice offers a confidential, client-centred space where every client is deeply respected, and individual worldviews and spirituality are honoured. I provide opportunities to integrate your personal beliefs into therapy and have extensive experience in Christian counselling for those seeking faith-based support.

Hi, I’m Annika — I’m truly glad you’re here.

For over two decades, I’ve been fascinated by the resilience of the human spirit. It’s a privilege to walk alongside my clients through life’s most difficult seasons—whether navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, or the weight of a major life transition.

I believe that healing and growth happen when we feel seen, understood, and supported. That’s why I created my practice with your comfort in mind—a calm, welcoming space where you have the room to breathe, simply be yourself, and let healing and growth unfold at your pace.

The heart of effective therapy is the relationship we build together. By making sure we’re the right “fit,” we can nurture a connection where your experiences are honoured and strategies are tailored to what works best for you.

My approach is person-centred and deeply inclusive. I meet you exactly where you are—with empathy, dignity, and respect for your background and worldview. In our sessions, what you see is what you get: a warm and authentic setting where humour and directness go hand in hand.

I don’t just offer a listening ear; I offer a partnership. Together, we’ll work to understand your experiences and support you in finding ways to nurture trust in yourself and your relationships, fostering a life that feels more mindful, compassionate, and fulfilling.

Whatever season of life you’re in, you don’t have to navigate it alone. I’m here to listen, support, and walk alongside you.

—Annika
